Officers of the Thunder Bay Tri-Force Drug Unit, consisting of OPP, Thunder Bay Police and RCMP, executed a search warrant at a Hudson Avenue residence on Tuesday the 18 December 2001.

The attending officers received a surprise when during the search they located explosives [gunpowder which was in a pipe and capped to be used as pipe bombs] and six electric detonators. The search was halted and members of the Thunder Bay City Police Emergency Task Force Unit attended.

Along with the explosives, police located 33 marihuana plants and a pound and a half of marihuana. The approximate value of the marihuana seized is $30,000.00.

Two Thunder Bay residents are in custody and will appear in court on 19 December 2001. Dana Hodder and Julie Turco are both charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and production of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. They are both further charged with making or possessing an explosive under section 82(1) of the Criminal Code and for possession of an explosive under section 6(c) of the Explosive Act.
