ECSTASY
- Other names: MDMA; X; XTC; ADAM
- Clinical name: 3-4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine
- This is a synthetic drug and is used as a stimulant and hallucinogen
- Originally developed as a slimming drug in 1913
- Form it comes in: Tablets; capsule, powder or liquid.
- Sold $40.00 - $60.00 per unit - 1 gram
- Ecstasy is a designer drug (as the name states it is an amphetamine). A
designer drug is created by changing the molecular structure of an existing
drug or drugs to create a new substance. This drug is created in clandestine
labs (very dangerous).
WHY IS IT TAKEN
- State of well being
- Sensory distortions
- Stay awake for long periods of time
- Stimulates the central nervous system and produces hallucinogenic effects.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS
- Depletes (serotonin) a chemical in the brain which regulates mood, sleep -
eating habits, thinking processes, aggression, sexual function and
sensitivity to pain.
- Person on Ecstasy experiences rapid eye movement, teeth clenching,
hallucinations, increased blood pressure, sweating, muscle tension, nausea,
increased heart rate, paranoid thinking, weight loss
WHERE IS THE MOST COMMON PLACES USED
- Rave Parties
- To stay awake
- Dance all night
- Can cause exhaustion and dehydration after non-stop dancing - die of
heat stroke
- This is the reason for bottled water being sold at $3.00 - $5.00 per
bottle
- This drug is often taken with other drugs: Cannabis, Alcohol and LSD.
- Ecstasy is called the "Love Drug"
- The drug isn’t an aphrodisiac. The drug has a tendency to inhibit
erections in men - less of a desire to have sex.
