GHB (GAMMA-HYDROXYBUTYRIC-ACID)

COMMON STREET NAMES:

Liquid Ecstasy, Scoop, Grievous Bodily Harm

LOOKS LIKE:

Liquid and powder form

HOW IT IS USED:

Snorted, drank, smoked, mixed with drinks

WHY IT’S USED:

Originally used by body builders to stimulate muscle growth
Used at Raves for its euphoric sedative qualities and anabolic effects.
Relaxed feeling and same high as being drunk but clear headed - no hangover
Ingested effects last 1 1/2 to 4 hours and effects occur 10 - 20 minutes after consumption

WHAT ARE THE CONCERNS

GHB is colourless and odourless
Used by sexual predators of both females and males
slipped into drinks

NEGATIVE EFFECTS

Loss of consciousness
Hypertension
Liver failure
Vomiting
Tremors and seizures
Coma and death
Respiratory problems

WITHDRAWAL EFFECTS

Insomnia
Anxiety
Sweating

EFFECTS DEPENDING ON DOSAGE

10 mg Amnesia
20 - 30 mg Drowsiness
50 mg + Epileptic fits; Breathing problems; Fall asleep; Coma
